Wildlife Protection, Habitat Safety, and Responsible Harvesting Policy Course
Purpose
TruForagers (“TruForagers”) is committed to the protection of wildlife, biodiversity, and critical habitat in all areas where it operates. As a company engaged in the sustainable wild harvesting of non-timber forest products (NTFPs), TruForagers recognizes its responsibility to ensure that harvesting activities do not endanger wildlife, disrupt sensitive habitats, or compromise ecological integrity.
This Policy establishes TruForagers framework to:
- Protect wildlife species, nests, dens, and seasonal habitats;
- Prevent harm, disturbance, or displacement of wildlife during harvesting operations;
- Align operations with Canadian federal and provincial wildlife, environmental, and occupational safety regulations;
- Support sustainable forest use consistent with organic, FairWild, and ecosystem-based management principles;
- Ensure that all staff, harvesters, and contractors act responsibly and lawfully in forest environments.
Scope
This Policy applies to:
- All TruForagers employees;
- Independent harvesters and contractors operating under TruNorth purchase orders or agreements;
- Any third-party operators coordinating activities with TruNorth harvesting operations.
Operations primarily occur on Crown land and approved forest tenures in Eastern Canada and other Canadian jurisdictions, in coordination with forest management companies, private foresters, and government authorities.
